Storm Ciara has caused chaos for many around our area, including us here at the Sustainable Land Trust. Damage caused by the storm has means we have to restore our kitchen garden and outdoor field study areas, to be used for adults and young people with learning and physical disabilities.
Major set back for food and wildflower growing
Over the last year we have been upgrading our outdoor facilities, which are at the heart of what we do. This year we planned to grow and provide salads, vegetables, herbs and native wildflowers to local café’s and shops, and teach skills in natural crafts, forestry and countryside management. All proceeds from our sales will go to supporting our users by providing meals, craft materials, skills and work experience opportunities and are an important element of supporting our users.
Volunteers needed to create new garden
We are looking for help so we can create a new garden in time for us to grow and sell our produce. Ed Hiorns, Project Officer says “We are devastated by the damage caused, and this has severely set back our plans to help a wide range of people. If anyone can offer some time to help with practical tasks, we would warmly welcome them’’.
