We recognise that humans benefit in many ways from the services our ecosystems provide, from the provision of clean drinking water and the decomposition of wastes, through to the cultural and economic products that it creates.
Our vision is to be a central voice in promoting ecosystem services for the benefit of nature and society.
By applying an ecosystems approach we can help people to understand how the natural environment works as a system and how society manages the services it provides.
To sustain ecosystem services and livelihoods by pursuing our mission of creating and securing sustainable landscapes and communities by integrating the management of land, water, biodiversity and other environmental resources that meet human needs
To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public by:
(a) the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of resources;
(b) the relief of those in need because of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities;
(c) the promotion of sustainable means of regeneration.
To advance the education of the public in subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment, in particular but not exclusively in subjects related to land management, with a view to developing the capacities of local communities to identify and meet their own needs.
Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Our work will be guided and informed by our commitments to:
We respect people, value diversity and are committed to equality
We value and recognise the contributions of beneficiaries, volunteers, and the wider community
We strive for excellence through continuous improvement
Our work will provide opportunities for others to advance in their lives and communities
All activities will be judged against our creation and stewardship of sustainable ecosystem services
